SHERLOCK HOLMES, CONSULTING DETECTIVE: Let's examine the clues before us. Discerning observers will notice that the monitor in the background, though out of focus, is clearly displaying
Street Figher II'. This is a subtle, ingenious tactic for weaving
Street Fighter II' (a sidebar) together with
The Legend of Xanadu (main focus of advertisement). It is not often that two disparate genres (RPG, fighting) are woven together with any sort of cohesiveness…
HARDWARE: UNIDENTIFIED. I scoured the image closely with my metaphorical magnifying glass, but I could not determine, with any certainty, if the monitors lining the shelf behind Mr. X were NEC PC-TV455.

SNK + PCE = FATAL FURY 2 (ACD)…
The Fatal Fury 2 Poster (2600x1597 .jpg) ▼ below must have delighted fans of fighting games back in 1993. Not only was Garou Densetsu 2 (Fatal Fury 2) (ACD) prominently announced for the PCE, but teasers for Art of Fighting and World Heroes 2 were also featured in the ad (only one screenshot apiece, but enough to whet the appetite). Ultimately, Fatal Fury 2 was the first of four SNK Arcade CD•ROM2 (ACD) games to be released over the course of 1994 (Fatal Fury Special had yet to be announced). You read that correctly, comrade, these games would not be released until 1994 and required the Arcade Card (a System Card upgrade).
FURTHER READING: Hudson ran this Fatal Fury 2 advertisement in several publications, including Dengeki PC Engine #09 (September 1993) where you can read more about SNK's fighting games on PCE.
GOLDEN AGE: The release of Capcom's Street Fighter II' and AVENUE PAD 6 earlier this year (06.12.93) left PCE fans ravenous for more fighting games. SNK's fighting games were extremely popular in the arcades and the prospect of playing popular series such as Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting and World Heroes on the PCE generated a lot of excitement. Plus, the cost of purchasing an AVENUE PAD 6 was easier to justify if the PCE's roster of fighting games appeared healthy and strong.
